Empowering Working Women: Lei Wa Lakom and UNHCR Join Hands for Change
In a world where gender equality remains an ongoing struggle, organizations dedicated to making a difference are crucial.Lei Wa Lakom, a women’s empowerment, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have recently formed a partnership aimed at empowering working women in vulnerable communities.
Empowering Through Education and Skills Training:
Education is the cornerstone of empowerment. Recognizing this, the collaboration between Lei Wa Lakom and UNHCR prioritizes providing educational opportunities to refugee women, aiming to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue meaningful careers and achieve economic independence. This empowerment enables them to contribute not only to their own well-being but also to the development of their families and host communities.
Advocacy and Awareness:
Lei Wa Lakom understands that empowering working women requires broader societal change. Together with UNHCR, they will engage in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugee women in vulnerable communities and the importance of gender equality. By promoting a greater understanding of the unique barriers and discrimination women face, this partnership works to mobilize support from corporations and individuals.Through these collective efforts, the collaboration strives to create an inclusive society where workingwomen can thrive and contribute their talents and skills fully.
In some societies, women and girls face discrimination and violence every day, simply because of their gender. An ordinary task like collecting water or going to the toilet can put them at risk of rape or abuse.
In times of displacement, this problem escalates. Women and girls make up around 50 percent of any refugee, internally displaced or stateless population, and those who are unaccompanied, pregnant, heads of households, disabled or elderly are especially vulnerable.
UNHCR work hard to ease their struggle, ensuring safe shelters that offer privacy, assistance with construction or maintenance, fair food distribution systems and separate sanitation facilities. UNHCR also manage programmes that help women to improve their leadership skills, overcome barriers to education, and access opportunities.
UNHCR’s work builds upon women’s own resilience and strength, and helps them to improve their lives, as well as those of their children, families and communities, every single day.
In supporting this important collaboration and be a part of the movement to empower working women globally. Together, we can create a future where every woman has the opportunity to realize her full potential and thrive in all aspects of life.
